Dylan Lightfoot, Mayor

Dylan Lightfoot moved to Lansing in 2011 and volunteered to fill an empty seat on the board the following year. An editor with McFarland & Co., he lives on Big Horse Creek with his wife and three children.

Jim Blevins, Alderman

Jim Blevins grew up in Lansing in the 1950s and '60s, when his family owned businesses along the main drag. He attended the Lansing School, where his mother taught for 45 years. He joined the Army during Vietnam, and later went to law schoolnow he's a retired lawyer and a retired lieutenant colonel. After his wife of 45 years passed away, he moved back to Lansing and now lives in the house that has been in his family since 1929. 

John Blevins, Alderman

John Blevins grew up between Lansing and Whitetop, Virginina, in the 1970s and '80s. His father, Jay Dee, worked at Lansing Auto Parts and his mother, Brenda, worked at M&M grocery. John's work history has been centered in Ashe, either in management of quality, engineering, training, or fuels services. He has served as the board chair for the Ashe Planning Board, PAC trustee for AHBA, lobbied for EX-IM bank and was program chair for the AHBA. His wife Amy and their two children are his pride and joy.  

Jack Brown, Alderman

A board member since 2010, Jack Brown has lived in Lansing for 54 years—a retired truck driver, after 23 years on the road. He and his wife have one daughter and a grandson.

Matt Cordell

Matt Cordell wears a few hats—he operates the local pizza parlor, Pie on the Mountain, makes cider at Molley Chomper Cidery, and has been on the board since 2015.

Michele Slaton, Alderman

Michelle Slaton moved to Lansing from Australia in 2012. Since then she and her husband Nicholas have been growing their commissioned furniture and cabinetry shop, Phoenix Mountain Arts. An alderman since 2013, Michelle also sits on the High Country Council of Governments Executive Board and serves as project manager for GLAD (Greater Lansing Area Development).
